Laptops rely on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which gradually wear down over time, causing them to hold less charge. This can disrupt daily tasks. Fortunately, several techniques, especially with Windows 11, can help conserve battery life. Here are five tips to keep your laptop’s battery healthy:
Laptops typically offer three power modes: Best Performance, Balanced, and Best Power Efficiency. By default, laptops often start in Balanced mode, but switching to Best Power Efficiency mode can significantly extend battery life. This mode is ideal for everyday tasks like browsing or writing and uses less power. However, it may reduce performance for power-intensive tasks like gaming.
For laptops with smaller batteries that discharge quickly, Windows 11’s Energy Saver mode is a helpful feature. When your battery level drops to a certain percentage, usually around 30%, Energy Saver automatically kicks in, reducing power usage. This mode limits background activities and adjusts settings to extend the remaining battery life.
When idle, it’s useful to enable Automatic Screen Off or Hibernation. By setting a specific time in your laptop's settings, the screen will turn off or the laptop will enter hibernation after a period of inactivity, conserving battery life.
Many laptops come with an Auto-Brightness feature, which adjusts screen brightness based on ambient light. This automatic adjustment helps save power by lowering screen brightness when it’s not needed.
You can configure your laptop to enter Sleep Mode when you close the lid. This instantly puts the laptop to sleep, saving battery. When you open the lid, the laptop wakes up automatically, making it a quick and energy-efficient option.
Following these practices can go a long way in keeping your laptop’s battery healthy and extending its charge throughout the day.
